ENTICER START
After listening to feedback from last week’s later Enticer start, the committee has decided to keep this in place for the rest of the season. There were some concerns about having our younger members out on the road later and we will continue to monitor this issue. Note that we have two “normal distance” races left where the Enticer will start approximate one minute after the last handicapper commences. Our last club race on 3rd May will be a long course (1/30/7.5) which will act as a tune up for the club champs. The Enticer start time will be confirmed in the Newsletter prior to the race. Please be aware everyone must activate their timing chip by 6.20 am no matter what distance you are competing in.

Despite the dark start, it was nice to have a swim where you could see the first turning buoy instead of squinting into the rising sun. Don’t worry, we’ll be squinting again at the next club race! It was a fairly low key race, with only 58 on the long course and 10 on the short course. Naturally, Richard Pearson was first over the line in an amazing 0:56:31. He just keeps getting faster. Joe Kane was next in 6 minutes later. Tenielle Stubbs was first female home and is showing some great speed and form of late. Kathy Ward was not far behind with true athletic style and barely a hint of slowing down or jet lag after a few weeks away overseas. Charles Barnes took on the long course and no doubt will shave even more minutes off his time if he gets himself onto a road bike (see CHTC classifieds below). Also showing some good form were Mick Darlow, Mel McCosker and Kristie Hildebrand, all now reaping the benefits of consistent training. Michael Ylinen won the short course in 0:36:50 and Jake Golding was not too far behind. There were a few familiar faces in the short course, whether recovering from longer distance races such as Lee Varney, or coming back from injury like Jo Magill, or just keeping your toe in the triathlon waters whilst juggling lots of other priorities like Ian Nash. Whatever your motivation, it’s always great to see our members out on the course, short or long. Keep up the good work. 12/3/2015 0 Comments Weekly newsletter 17 march 2015BACK ON COURSE
It feels like an age since the last club race and so much has happened in the meantime. No doubt members are champing at the bit to get out racing again, keen to show off their speed over the sprint and enticer distances. It will be business as usual on Sunday 22nd March, with our last race in daylight savings time (NB: daylight savings finishes at 3am on Sunday 5th April). Official sunrise won’t be until 6:52am, so it might be a good idea to bring a torch along so you can see while you’re setting up your transition area. It’s starting to get a little crisp in the mornings as well, so please ensure you are rugged up if you feel the cold. The swim could be a little on the short side, with low tide at 4:23am, so the tide will only just be starting to come back in when we start at 6:30am. The water has been clear and warm lately, so be prepared for a possible wetsuit ban, but in beautifully clear water. As for the skies, rain is predicted so please also be prepared for potentially wet race. As always, please check the weather conditions closer to race day. bcu COFFS TRI
What a day! Once again, the weather came to the party and the rain showers stayed away for the big event on Sunday. The increasing heat made things harder on the run, and we were lucky that the winds and thunder storms stayed away until later in the afternoon. How good was it to race in our own backyard? CHTC was well-represented in all age groups and in both the Enticer and Olympic distances. There were also plenty of mini-CHTC members in the Enticer and also the kids’ races on Saturday. Jump online to Facebook and look for Nashy’s Pix. Nashy has once excelled himself with his photo coverage of the race and there are some great shots that you can purchase. Village Sports also has some great shots from both days. We had an almost-full moon to set up our space in the crowded transition areas. As the sun rose over the Jetty, the Enticer racers took off. It was a close field at the pointy end, with Isiah Koopmans, Glen Price, Sam Burke, Glen George and Matthew Marsden all finishing within 4 minutes of eachother. Congratulations to Isiah for taking out the race. Looks like whatever lessons he needed to learn at All Schools were well and truly put into place on Sunday. The top 4 female finishers were also Coffs locals, with Chloe Bulloch showing some good genes and a strong future in triathlon with her first place finish. Alison Tarplee, Joanne Ferguson and Elora Croaker were all not far behind. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Enticer, especially those taking on their first triathlon. 21/2/2015 0 Comments weekly newsletter 24 february 2015NEW START FOR THE ENTICER
At our next club Triathlon on 22nd March, the start time for the Enticer event will now be one minute after the last 25 minute handicapper starts, ie 26 minutes after the start of the long course race. The committee has made this decision to split the start primarily to ease congestion during the swim leg and have everyone finish the event closer to the same time. Note that registration will still close at 6:20 am for both events as usual. There will be a slight change to the enticer swim course that will be explained on the day. The swim course for the long event will not change. NEXT RACE
These fortnights are rolling around quickly and once again we will be off and racing on Sunday. Expect to see some slick times from members across the board, as many of us are approaching our key races and starting to get in gear for the bcu Coffs Tri on 8 March. Hopefully the weather will hold out and give us good racing conditions. Rain is predicted but it’s always hard to know what the weather gods will give us this far out from the day. What we do know is we will have warm, humid conditions. Please remember to hydrate well both the day before and during the race. And be sure to check what is in your cup from the aid station before you pour that liquid over your head or you’ll be in for a hot, humid and sticky run! (Oh come on, we’ve all done it!) We should be setting off right at high tide, which is at 6:05am. The seas have been pretty calm of late and the water has been around 24 degrees. Once again, be prepared for the “no wetsuit” announcement, just in case! SUNDAY RACE REPORT
Just when you thought Lyndal Green couldn’t get any faster, she puts in the extraordinary race that saw her the fastest female at the Club race on Sunday. All Lyndal’s hard work training for the Sprint Championships is definitely paying off. And with the always-in-form Joe Kane away doing his thing at Hell of the West, Isiah Koopmans had the chance to enjoy being the fastest male. Isiah is quickly showing the promise that saw him awarded our Junior Scholarship. Lots of other members were in fine form on Sunday, no doubt helped along by yet another near perfect morning for racing. Vicki Tillott shaved several minutes off her time, Dallas Howard and Jo Ferguson both finished their first long course in very respectable times, and the Marsden family (Kate, Sarah & Matthew) continue to show the benefits of a new approach to their training. It was also good to see Sarvi Thompson back on the course. Some of us are still feeling a little sluggish with the extra weight & down time over Christmas, but no doubt times will continue to improve as the season progresses and people get closer to their key races. 21/1/2015 0 Comments Weekly newsletter 27 january 2015BACK INTO IT
By now most of us are well and truly back into the swing of training and racing, and looking forward to a packed season, not to mention taking out Club Champs in May! Many of our members are looking forward to away races in the near future and of course there are a host of events in the local region – like the bcu Coffs Tri on 8 March (have you entered yet???). But in the immediate future is our next CHTC club race on Sunday 1 February. As always, please be racked & ready by 6:15am, with the race briefing at 6:20am and race start at 6:30am. An additional volunteer is needed for the swim duty. If you can volunteer on the swim this Sunday, please contact Mark Griffiths at markgriffiths1964@gmail.com. Or, if you are already on duty and are willing to swap to swim duty, please let Mark know ASAP. Volunteers need to arrive by 5:45am, and don’t forget to sign on to register that you have turned up! 20/1/2015 0 Comments weekly newsletter 20 january 2015SUNDAY RACE REPORT
You would think that the high temperatures and humidity would have slowed people down in the club race on Sunday. But the conditions just played into the hands of those who have kept up their training momentum over the Christmas break, with an incoming tide, virtually no wind resistance on the bike and a hot run helping to produce some PBs. Nothing was getting in the way of Lyndal Green & Sarah Marsden who both came over the line in around 67 minutes, with Lyndal in the lead by just 25 seconds. Joe Kane gave us another killer run leg (under 20 minutes!!) to take the win, with Glen Price only a couple of minutes behind in 2nd place. There were also incredibly slick times from Briana Rooney, Ian Howchin, Jess Dougherty, Kathy Ward and Rebecca Varney, all of whom have put in consistent training to produce these results. Well done. 13/1/2015 0 Comments Weekly newsletter 13 january 2015SUNDAYS RACE
We are back to the normal race format this coming Sunday, early indications are for a fine morning, temperatures of 21 rising to 29 during the day a gentle southerly breeze and a rising high tide which should provide an honest swim, no assistance on the final leg of the bike and a gentle push home on the run. As usual please allow yourself enough time to be racked & ready by 06:15 for a 06:30 start. |
