RACE REPORT
By Isaiah Koopmans The great weather made for perfect conditions for the first race of 2015, in the club’s annual run swim run event. There wasn’t a huge turnout as people must still be getting over that Christmas hangover but the race saw 17 taking to the short course and 47 in the long course. The race commenced with the women and short course competitors followed by the males starting five minutes behind. The conditions made for some good racing and some interesting changes in the positioning with the bike out of the equation. Ed Brazier and Jess Dougherty had the fastest runs for the day while Isaiah Koopmans and Lyndal Green had the fastest swim times for the male and female divisions. Tim Martin led the short course from start to finish followed by Michael Ylinen and Jake Golding, Jayde Viles was the first female. In the long course Isaiah Koopmans came out victorious in a time of 57.43, with Joe Kane and Ed Brazier taking out the minor placing’s. In the women’s Alison Howle was hard to beat finishing as first female and second overall in a time of 58.12, with Sarah Marsden and Lyndal Green taking the minor placing’s. Congratulations to myself who managed to break the water trough after taking a fall. Thanks to Richard and Mark for your sympathy and sorry to everyone who had to run with sandy feet. Who’s got blisters?

By Michael Dougherty Strong numbers, yachts in the harbour, a Volvo parked in the transition area and cold water were the features of the latest club race on Sunday. As competitors got themselves race ready, the sight of the Volvo parked near the tent had a few thinking the lucky draw prizes had taken on a new meaning. However as we all know, if you want a real car you would go see long term club sponsor Todd Blewitt at Mike Blewitt Ford and get a decent vehicle. How cold was the water? Well by the look of a few male competitors wearing budgy smugglers, rather chilly, not that anyone was looking. Still, over 110 competitors lined up for our last full race of the season. Lisa Alford, Cliff Lloyd, Al Scotford and former club champ Josh Doak all made welcome returns to club racing with Lisa in particular posting a slick time. Interesting to see how everyone places in each leg. Jon Waites, Jo Lawler, Caron Mackie and Marg Roberts are great examples of consistent racing, while Steel Beveridge takes out the ultimate prize with the exact same placings in all three legs. The beauty of our sport is the challenge to master all three legs and as they say “if it was easy everyone would be doing it”. Our final race for the year is the annual teams’ race. Please take note of the sign-on details in this newsletter. Hope everyone can make it down for the last event of 2015. Nearly got through this report without mentioning Richard Pearson, who incidentally was first all in all three legs. Well done Richard. 2/12/2014 1 Comment weekly newsletter 2 december 2014LAST CHANCE FOR CHRISTMAS PARTY RSVP

Retro Race Day…what a funtastic race indeed. Race did someone say race? Today’s event appeared to be more about the fashions on the field than the race time. A big congratulations to everyone – whether you raced the clock or just kept the crowds entertained it was another perfect (albeit hot) morning. Speaking of race times – a HUGE congratulations to Richard Pearson who in todays’ race shattered the course record for the bike leg, completing it in 28:30 (which time also includes both the transition times). Richard is going from strength to strength & definitely someone who’s autograph we need to snaffle now rather than wait until he is right up there with the top pro guys & we are too scared to even say hello to him!!! 18/11/2014 0 Comments weekly newsletter 18 November 2014RETRO CLUB RACE

Our run of great weather continued on Sunday for the club’s annual sprint race with another classic morning greeting competitors. With handicaps being thrown out for the race, some extremely close and competitive racing took place. Zoe Burgess pushed Kate Marsden over the first two laps before retiring (no doubt off to study for exams) and leaving Kate to again take line honours in the women’s division. Joe Kane must have thought he was being chased by father time but it was rather Woopi teenagers Sam Bourke and Isaiah Koopmans nipping at his heels. Joe’s experience eventually prevailed but our junior stocks are looking the most promising for many years. Welcome back to Glen Price who returned to club racing after a few years off. For those who don’t know Glen in his formative years was one of our region’s best cyclists who had a few years in Europe competing and acting as a mechanic for top professional teams in Europe. These days you can find him at club Sponsor Rainbow Cycles plying his trade. Well done also to Jo Lawler, Pete Timothy, Lois Oliver, Dave Bowen and Clare Judd who among others are getting their seasons happening as the weather warms up. 4/11/2014 0 Comments Weekly Newsletter 4 November 2014TRIPLE SPRINT
Our next race on 9 November is our annual triple sprint race. This is always an interesting event to see who can keep up the same consistent pace for all three. For those who haven’t done it before, or those who would rather forget, the format is 250m swim, 7km cycle, 2km run done as three consecutive super sprint triathlons. You can choose to do one, two or all three laps. Just be sure to notify the timekeepers if you finish early. It’s always a test of transition times and techniques, as well as shock to those arms & shoulders when they hit the water for the second lap after a 2km run. You will have to plan out how you will conduct each transition in each lap. It might pay to remember that it can be really tricky to put on a wet swimming cap while running down to the beach. You might want to consider leaving the wetsuit at home as well. We will be starting at the usual time of 6:30am sharp, with race briefing at 6:20am. Please ensure you are racked, registered and ready to go by 6:15am. The BOM is forecasting a mostly sunny day with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 27 degrees. There may also be some light NE winds about. We will once again be swimming on the incoming tide, with high tide at 10:36am and smooth conditions predicted. Perfect race conditions once again. 27/10/2014 0 Comments Weekly newsletter 27 October 2014PERFECT
Days like last Sunday’s club race are a great reminder how beautiful the Coffs Coast can be. Silky smooth water conditions, little or no wind on the bike and cool sunny run conditions made it a treat for those who competed. We also had glowing reports from our “Undercover” Technical Official who observed cyclists from the safety car. However please remember it is not a social ride and you need to stay nine metres behind the cyclist in front of you to avoid a breaking a very important rule, so best leave the chatting on the bike until after you finish. |
