23/6/2014 0 Comments Weekly Newsletter 23 June 20142014-15 SUCCESS STARTS NOW
Most club members have had a break from triathlon over the past 4-6 weeks, and the majority will be beginning to get itchy feet and start looking through the race calendar for next season. This is the ideal time to prepare your racing schedule, and put in place a training plan that will see you get the most from yourself when competition resumes. It doesn’t matter whether you plan to stick with club events with the occasional away race, or target an overseas destination event; the time for forward planning is now. For those looking to race away from home, target those locations that suit you; if you are strong on the inclines look for a hilly course; if you excel in the ocean, search for testing open water swim starts; if you hate the cold look for a warmer climate. It is possible to adapt your body to suit a specific course, but far easier to select an event that is already ideal for your current strengths. A great example of a race suiting the athlete is the recent Ironman Cairns, where male winner Cameron Brown felt “at home” in the cold and wet conditions. Although entering hoping for a warm and humid day in order to get physically prepared for hotter races later in the season, the unusually cooler day suited him perfectly, having won at Ironman New Zealand in more temperate conditions on more than 10 occasions.

Thanks to all those who attended our AGM last Wednesday. I would particularly like to thank the outgoing committee members Ian Nash, Margie Gill, Marlene Power and Deb Tennant. We all very much appreciate your efforts throughout the season. The highlight of the AGM was the awarding of Life Membership to Anne Grundy and Phil Benoit. Both have been in the club for many years, having served on the committee in various positions and represented the club with distinction at triathlons around the country and overseas. Please congratulate Anne and Phil if you see them in the months ahead. The committee is currently preparing for the season ahead and a race calendar will be available next month. Without doubt our focus will be on the Club Championships on 16th May 2015 at Forster. We are fortunate to have Vicki Tillot co-ordinating this task. While the weekend has always been about getting everyone together, let’s not pretend we will be there to go one better. To be the first country club to be both Country and overall State Championships would be a massive achievement. We were so close last time so please mark this date in your “must do’s”. That’s all. See you out there Michael (Mick) Dougherty 11/6/2014 0 Comments Weekly Newsletter 3 June 2014ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
