Retro Race Day…what a funtastic race indeed. Race did someone say race? Today’s event appeared to be more about the fashions on the field than the race time. A big congratulations to everyone – whether you raced the clock or just kept the crowds entertained it was another perfect (albeit hot) morning. Speaking of race times – a HUGE congratulations to Richard Pearson who in todays’ race shattered the course record for the bike leg, completing it in 28:30 (which time also includes both the transition times). Richard is going from strength to strength & definitely someone who’s autograph we need to snaffle now rather than wait until he is right up there with the top pro guys & we are too scared to even say hello to him!!!

Help celebrate our 25th birthday by stepping back in time and digging out your old tri gear. Give the oldies a flashback! This Sunday’s race is retro day. Whether it’s your old steel frame bike, a smashing pair of budgie smugglers, leg warmers, head bands, a well-cultivated moustache or your best fluoro, give it an outing at the club race this Sunday. There are prizes to be had for the best outfits! See the picture below for details. Start time is as usual – racked and registered by 6:15am, race briefing at 6:20am and race start at 6:30am. The BOM is predicting a very hot day with a minimum of 21 degrees and getting up to 34, so please ensure you bring plenty of fluids and drink regularly before, during and after the race. High tide is 9:31am, so once again we have the incoming tide. See you on the course! 12/11/2014 0 Comments Christmas partyHi everyone

Our run of great weather continued on Sunday for the club’s annual sprint race with another classic morning greeting competitors. With handicaps being thrown out for the race, some extremely close and competitive racing took place. Zoe Burgess pushed Kate Marsden over the first two laps before retiring (no doubt off to study for exams) and leaving Kate to again take line honours in the women’s division. Joe Kane must have thought he was being chased by father time but it was rather Woopi teenagers Sam Bourke and Isaiah Koopmans nipping at his heels. Joe’s experience eventually prevailed but our junior stocks are looking the most promising for many years. Welcome back to Glen Price who returned to club racing after a few years off. For those who don’t know Glen in his formative years was one of our region’s best cyclists who had a few years in Europe competing and acting as a mechanic for top professional teams in Europe. These days you can find him at club Sponsor Rainbow Cycles plying his trade. Well done also to Jo Lawler, Pete Timothy, Lois Oliver, Dave Bowen and Clare Judd who among others are getting their seasons happening as the weather warms up. 4/11/2014 0 Comments Weekly Newsletter 4 November 2014TRIPLE SPRINT
Our next race on 9 November is our annual triple sprint race. This is always an interesting event to see who can keep up the same consistent pace for all three. For those who haven’t done it before, or those who would rather forget, the format is 250m swim, 7km cycle, 2km run done as three consecutive super sprint triathlons. You can choose to do one, two or all three laps. Just be sure to notify the timekeepers if you finish early. It’s always a test of transition times and techniques, as well as shock to those arms & shoulders when they hit the water for the second lap after a 2km run. You will have to plan out how you will conduct each transition in each lap. It might pay to remember that it can be really tricky to put on a wet swimming cap while running down to the beach. You might want to consider leaving the wetsuit at home as well. We will be starting at the usual time of 6:30am sharp, with race briefing at 6:20am. Please ensure you are racked, registered and ready to go by 6:15am. The BOM is forecasting a mostly sunny day with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 27 degrees. There may also be some light NE winds about. We will once again be swimming on the incoming tide, with high tide at 10:36am and smooth conditions predicted. Perfect race conditions once again. |
