Today’s event appeared to be more about the fashions on the field than the race time. A big congratulations to everyone – whether you raced the clock or just kept the crowds entertained it was another perfect (albeit hot) morning. Speaking of race times – a HUGE congratulations to Richard Pearson who in todays’ race shattered the course record for the bike leg, completing it in 28:30 (which time also includes both the transition times). Richard is going from strength to strength & definitely someone who’s autograph we need to snaffle now rather than wait until he is right up there with the top pro guys & we are too scared to even say hello to him!!! There was an abundance of amazing & as well as just plain awful, retro gear on show. And the prizes were well worth the effort of dressing up today, with 1st place for the best outfit wining a refund on their annual club membership as well as vouchers for Woodsey's Wheels for 2nd & 3rd Place. Competition was tough & you could see some competitors getting deflated when others pulled out various items from their bag of tricks in transition.
There were so many stand outs, so please don’t get offended if your outfit did not offend enough to get a mention here. Those that caught the judge’s eyes included:
Top Honours on the Day went to:
A big thank you to Scott from Woodsey’s Wheels for his generous prises & adding to the whole spectacle of the day! And to all the men who used today’s race as just a viable excuse to run around in speedos…Thank You (generally speaking!) If you missed all the fun or just want to have a bit more of a chuckle check out the Coffs Tri Facebook page for some great shots! But remember that what has been seen cannot be unseen! Our next Club Race will be the last of the year in the traditional format (the race on 21st December will be the annual teams’ event). FROM THE PRESIDENT As we approach the year’s end and start to plan our events for 2015, the BCU Triathlon on March 7th and 8th should be forefront in our minds (aside from Club Champs, of course). Village Sports is the CHTC Platinum sponsor, meaning, to put it bluntly, they give us more money to run the club than anyone else. Staging this event is no easy task and again we need to lend our support not only as competitors but also as volunteers. Over the next two club races Mick Maley from Village Sports will be on hand asking for names to assist on the Saturday for the Junior events and Sunday for the Enticer and Olympic distance race. A few hours of your time will go a long way to ensuring the event’s success and will be very much appreciated by the team at Village Sports. You can email Mick at [email protected] if you’re away, otherwise please make yourself known on race day. Thanks and see you out there. Michael (Mick) Dougherty. RSVP FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARTY Time passes quickly at this time of year and before we know it the Christmas party will be upon us. So to ensure you will be a part of this social highlight, get your RSVP in ASAP. Please RSVP by Monday 1st December to Karen Dance at [email protected]. Your official invitation is attached with all the details. This year’s party promises to be one of the best. It will be held at Shearwater Restaurant on Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour from 4pm on 7th December and we would love to see you all there. For $25 you get food, friends, music and a beautiful venue. Come celebrate the year with your fellow triathletes, and enjoy some nibbles & a few drinks with the best and friendliest Tri Club in the business! BEAT THE HEAT Last Sunday’s race was a hot one – it was 29 degrees at 9am! The heat on the run made it a tough race and thankfully we all came through unscathed. Most people headed straight to the water to cool off afterwards. But what can you do when you’re training and time and geographical constraints limit your cooling-off options? Here are a few tips to help you survive the summer weather:
Even with proper training and gear, the most important skill is listening to your body and knowing the danger signs of dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heat cramps and hyponatremia. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, are disoriented, have stopped sweating when you know you should be, have goose bumps in hot weather or your skin feels clammy, stop exercising, get out of the sun and seek medical attention. BUSY Three Australian men have set a new world record by climbing the eight highest peaks of each Australian state and territory. It took them a total of 6 days, 21 hours & 30 minutes and includes travel time. That’s a busy few days! You can read all about this amazing record HERE and ALSO HERE. Maybe something for your off season? ONES FOR THE CALENDAR
