Relief at last! The new season is creeping up on us. It will be magpie season before you know it. Just have to get through this pesky winter first. To help us dream of the season to come and plan which races we will conquer, membership for season 2014/15 is now open at www.trinsw.org.au. You can finally start entering all the races for the new season! As was the case last season you will join both CHTC and TRINSW at the same time. Also you will need to select a duty and a duty date before completing the process. Too easy. Please note that during the upcoming season there will be NO REGISTRATIONS ON THE DAY OF A CLUB RACE. ALL REGISTRATIONS, WHETHER THEY BE FOR CLUB MEMBERSHIP OR ONE DAY MEMBERSHIP, MUST BE DONE ONLINE 24 HOURS BEFORE A RACE. Last season the registration process on race day caused significant delays in starting, meaning those members with later handicaps times faced riding on roads with heavier traffic, compromising their safety. This is a significant change in the way the club has operated so if you know someone who intends competing this season please let them know that must pre-register at least one day prior to race day. SPONSORSHIP Thank you to our highly valued sponsors for last season. We will be in contact with you shortly. This season there have been a few changes to our sponsorship packages and we are excited to announce we now have a Platinum level sponsor which will be announced in the coming weeks. Our gold (two) and silver cash (one) sponsors are entitled to free club membership. If you are a current sponsor or intending to be a sponsor and wish to renew your membership, the club will refund the cost of your membership once sponsorship payment has been received. If you are interested becoming a sponsor, please contact the President Michael Dougherty at [email protected] or Vice President Judy Chesney at [email protected]. TECHNICAL OFFICIALS COURSE Congratulations to Jenny Williams, Andrew Hart, John Tennant, Michael Booth and Todd Blewitt who are well on their way to completing the Level 1 Technical Officials course. We are fortunate to have Allan Harrison, a highly accredited T/O move to Coffs Harbour, join our club and along with Ian Nash, conducted the course last Friday. Triathlon events cannot be held without someone filling these vital roles so congratulations to these members for giving back to our sport. RULE OF THE WEEK Not happy with the ruling of your appeal? Then take it to the next level and appeal to the Triathlon Australia Board. Here’s how you do it. Rule 8 – Appeals 8.2 Appeal to the TA Board A competitor whose appeal is dismissed by the Race Competition Jury (RCJ) may appeal to the TA Board. a. The only ground of appeal available to an aggrieved competitor following determination by the RCJ is that the procedure relating to appeals set out in Rule 9.1 of the TA RCR was not properly followed and/or implemented; b. Any appeal under this section must be lodged with the CEO of TA within 48 hours of receipt by the aggrieved competitor of the decision of the RCJ; c. Appeals under this section must be in writing stating precisely the ground of appeal relied upon by the aggrieved competitor; d. The timetable and procedure for any appeal to the TA Board will be set by the President of TA or his/her nominated representative. Such timetable and procedure shall take into consideration the need for expediency and finality in regard to race results in addition to any other matter deemed significant by the President (or nominee) in the circumstances of the appeal; e. When considering whether the ground of appeal has been made out the TA Board will disregard any technical breach of the rules that in their opinion had no bearing on the outcome of the appeal to the RCJ or merits of the competitor's appeal to the RCJ; and Any appeal to the TA Board against the decision of the RCJ must include a fee of $500.00 made payable to Triathlon Australia which is non-refundable should the appeal to the TA Board be dismissed. NIMBIN FUN RUN Not commonly associated with sport, Nimbin is hosting a 5km fun run on Sunday 31st August at 11:30am. Entries close at 11am on the day. The day will see activities for the whole family, including kids races and team events. There is $750 in prize money up for grabs for the first male and female! There are also $3000 worth of prizes on offer for us mere mortals. It looks like a great day out in a beautiful setting, and only a few hours north. The attached flyer has more details and includes the entry form. WOOPI TRI!!! WOOPI TRI!!! WOOPI TRI!!! Further details are emerging of the Woopi Tri to be held on 27th & 28th September. Word on the street is that there will be a SPECIAL GUEST COMPETITOR! We are very excited to hear who this could be, considering that the organisers are the same people who brought Craig Alexander to our presentation. Can’t wait to hear who it will be. There is also news of a “secret triathlon group” preparing for the Woopi Tri. Although it may not be so secret any more. Check out Woopi Tri Facebook Page for more info. IDIOTS GUIDE TO BIKE MAINTENANCE So you’ve attended one of the wonderful bike maintenance sessions with our generous sponsors, Ventoux Cycles, Bob Wallis Cycles, Rainbow Cycles and Woodsey’s Wheels. But if you’re anything like me and can’t remember anything you were shown (except maybe “start opposite the valve” when changing a tyre), then have a look at this great guide from Wiggle in the UK at http://guides.wiggle.co.uk/sportive-bike-preparation-guide/. It gives a nice step-by-step guide to checking that your weapon of choice is in tip-top condition and ensure it is ready to serve you well at your next race. And of course, if you have any questions or need some equipment, then just pay a visit to one of our cycle shop sponsors who will be more than happy to help you. ONES FOR THE CALENDAR
