24/4/2015 0 Comments weekly newsletter 5 May 2015END OF THE SEASON Well, we can’t always be blessed with perfect conditions, so nature threw us a curly one on the weekend. With wild weather hitting the area on Friday, we were unsure whether the last race for the season would go ahead at all. Fortunately, the rains eased and the race went ahead as planned. What was left of the weather made for a fun and more challenging race for those 45 competitors that took on the long course, and the 2 that did the enticer distance. The swim was shortened to 800m, but some chose to go a little longer while swimming around trying to find the buoys! The Jetty waters were not as flat as usual, but the waves gave us a nice ride back to the beach. The recent wild weather had created a nice sand ramp up to the transition area, with the timber steps almost completely covered. Made for a nice change. Onto the bike and thankfully the transition area wasn’t too muddy. But just when you thought we were in for a smooth, rain-free ride, the heavens opened up and poured cold, stinging rain for a few minutes. Just long enough to make things more slippery and keep us all attentive to the conditions.
The run course had a couple of detours through lesser puddles and at times felt more like a Tough Mudder race than our usual club course. It was not a place for those who are precious about getting their shoes wet! The sun came out to steam up the conditions, making for a hot finish for some members. Line honours went to Glen George, Mick Dougherty and Patrick Brennan. Kate Marsden, Shannon O’Hara and Joanne Fergusson were the first females home. The Ventoux Cyles team were strong and were the first of our sponsor teams to come in. Isiah Koopmans smashed up the Enticer course with Ky Sullivan keeping him honest a couple of minutes behind. This season has seen so many of our members go from strength to strength and it has been a privilege to be there for all the highs and lows, joys and tribulations, PBs and “maybe next race” moments. Thanks to each and every member who was a part of our club in 2014/15. You are what makes CHTC so strong and a pleasure to belong to. Thanks also to the Committee members who keep things ticking along behind the scenes. Thanks for giving up your free time to take CHTC to new heights. In all it was a great day on the course on Sunday, and the season has been one to be remembered. It’s always sad to see the end of the season, but we will be back at it again in a couple of weeks for our last hurrah at Club Championships! Let’s make it our best yet! PUBLICITY OFFICER & HANDICAPPER 2015/2016 SEASON As mentioned in the last newsletter, the club is looking for someone who is willing to be trained as our Handicapper for next season. Over many years Martin Rose had admirably done the job with assistance from Dave Leckenby. Both are willing to help and fill in when required but it is very important someone is also trained. See below for further information:
If you are interested please contact [email protected]. We are also looking for someone to take on the role of Publicity Officer. This role involves sending occasional press releases to local media, as well as compiling & sending out the weekly newsletter. You don’t have to be a wordsmith or be a genius with computers. It just takes a couple of hours every week to compile the items for the newsletter and/or press releases and send them out. You will need to be competent computer user. The current format is done in MS Outlook (full version), but this can always be changed to Mail Chimp or another mailout system if you prefer. If you are interested, please contact [email protected]. CORE AND CONDITIONING COURSE By now we all know the benefits to be gained in triathlon by having a strong core. So to help put the theory into practice, Coffs Coast Health Club are putting on a Strength & Core Conditioning Course for Triathletes. The course will start on 20th May and run for 8 weeks, from 5:30am - 6:30am each week. The cost of $144 for the whole course is an exclusive price for CHTC members. Further details are on the attached flyer, or you can contact Glen Barnett on 0411 037 097 or [email protected] if you require more information.
