4/3/2014 0 Comments Weekly Newsletter 3 March 2014BCU COFFS TRI RACE REPORT By Michelle Clarke What a marvellous weekend was had by all at the bcu Coffs Tri. I went to bed on Saturday evening listening to the pouring rain and wondering what on earth Mick and Sinclair could have done to deserve such rotten luck! I awoke to a Facebook post declaring stars in the sky!! Was this a dream or wishful thinking? I was part of a team this year. I conquered the bike and run and my workmate the swim. I watched nervously as Richie set off for the swim, listening intently for Sinclair's warning whistle! I then moved up to the transition area. Here I was fortunate enough to watch the pros do their change with such skill. I also witnessed some amazing transition rituals - from the amazingly organized to the amazingly unorganized!
Richie staggered up the beach some time later to find me waiting patiently... OK…impatiently! Being the very last out on the bike I received huge cheers from a sympathetic crowd! The bike course was fantastic. No hills. Just the "incline" at the start. It was amazing to feel the pros "whoosh" past and great to hear Coffs Tri Club members encouraging each other all the way. Back in transition I returned to the applause of my team mate and family. Off on the run I set. As I was just leaving transition I heard the announcement that the race has been won! The 3 lap run was different but enjoyable with some cool sea breezes and clouds to keep us a little cool. Although I'm not a fan of lap runs (I prefer out and back), I did enjoy coming past the spectators and hear them cheer on their respective family and friends. The fun atmosphere was infectious. Finally I was on my last lap and homeward bound with my customary shuffle in full flight! I crossed the line with my proud team mate clicking the camera for the work notice board. All in all I loved the day. The goodwill and community spirit that was around was so uplifting and can only be a good thing for the growth of the bcu Coffs Tri and the growth of such a great sport for teams and individuals. FROM VILLAGE SPORTS… Village Sports would like to extend a huge thank you to all the Coffs Tri Club members for competing, volunteering and supporting the bcu Coffs Tri. It was fantastic seeing so many familiar, smiling faces over the weekend cheering on the other competitors, taking part and helping out. The event would not have been the success it was without the support of our wonderful CHTC members. Village Sports and bcu will be putting on a big party for volunteers and sponsors to say thanks, so stay tuned for details. RULE OF THE WEEK We are on such a buzz from the race on the weekend that we’ll keep it short this week. Rule 1 – General Conduct 1.1. Competitors must: a. practise good sports conduct at all times; b. be responsible for their own safety, the safety of their own equipment and be considerate of the safety of others; c. be responsible for understanding and following the Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules.; TRYSTARS INFORMATION EVENING Over the few past seasons we have had parents enquire about their children participating in club events. However, as stated previously, our current policy only permits Juniors 13 years and above to compete in CHTC events. This is principally due to safety issues involving the bike leg and the raft of other issues involving young children competing. However for those parents who are interested in their children becoming involved in the sport, Triathlon NSW has a new program called TRYstars. The course runs over eight weeks in which TRINSW will administer and provide support to parents or individuals who would like to become involved. Please note that this program is not run in conjunction with any club events and all information is administered by TRINSW. Please see details in the attached information sheet. ROTTNEST CHANNEL SWIM The 4th Annual Coffs Coast/Clarence Cando Cancer Trust Charity Swim will be held on Saturday 15th March 2014. Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club will be participating and has been given the block of time between 12pm and 12.30pm. If members can assist, we will be swimming a relay for half an hour attempting to complete as many laps as possible. On behalf of our members the club has donated $250.00 to this very worthwhile charity, so if you have time please come along and support the event. Further details are listed on flyer attached. BEACHSIDE RADIOLOGY COFFS OCEAN SWIMS While we are all still on a high from the weekend’s events, it’s a great time to get your entry in for the Coffs Ocean Swim to be held on Sunday 30th March.
