GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS
Now that we are heading towards the back end of the season, the rewards for everyone’s hard work are starting to show in fast times and strong performances at club races.
Richard Pearson continues to dominate our club course and on the weekend put in another slick time of 0:56:41. Tenielle Stubbs is starting to show signs of the very strong triathlete she is maturing into, and was once again the fastest female in 1:09:58. The weekend’s race also showed that we should expect some impressive results next weekend at bcu Coffs Tri. So many of our members are getting stronger, fitter and faster every week. Can’t wait to see how it all pans out for us a club as we show off our prowess on home turf.
It was great to see both our club coaches, Phil Benoit and Andrew Rowlings, on the course showing us how it’s done – especially Phil whose 1:11:29 was particularly remarkable after so many weeks away from racing while he was recovering from a second round of shoulder surgery.
Our collective behaviour on the bike course is improving. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to learn the rules and put them into play on race days. However there are still a few who need reminders so we will continue to run the rule of the week in the newsletter.
RULE OF THE WEEK
By far the most regulated leg, the bike is where most people get caught out. Here are some more incidental rules of which everyone needs to be aware.
Rule 3 – Cycling Conduct
3.1 A competitor is not permitted to cycle without appropriate footwear or with a bare torso.
3.2 A competitor is not permitted to make any forward progress without the bicycle and all of its component parts.
3.3 Bicycle helmets are compulsory and must be approved by a testing authority which is recognised by a national federation that is an affiliate of the International Triathlon Union (ITU).
3.4 An alteration or addition to any part of the bicycle helmet including the chin strap, or the omission of any part of the helmet, including an outer cloth cover, is prohibited.
3.5 The bicycle helmet must remain securely fastened on the head of a competitor at all times once the bicycle is removed from the bicycle rack, while on the bicycle course and until the bicycle is replaced on the bicycle rack.
bcu COFFS TRI - THIS WEEKEND!!!
A final reminder to all Club members who haven't yet entered the bcu Coffs TRI that it is on this weekend!! This is our chance to race on home soil in a familiar setting, having woken up in our own beds and able to go through our pre-race rituals in our own homes.

In the final lead up to the bcu TRI, and as a further commitment to such a great local event, bcu are running a fabulous competition at their Flagship Store at Park Beach Plaza, where registered competitors in the 2014 bcu TRI have the chance to win an Avanti Road Bike worth $2,000.
The competition is open to those that are registered competitors in the 2014 bcu TRI and/or a bcu customer.

GETTING STARTED IN ORIENTEERING
Bush & Beach Orienteering Club President Bruce Meder is offering a morning of training in some basic orienteering techniques. Bruce has been orienteering for more than fifteen years and in that time has won numerous age group titles in New Zealand and Australia.
This will be a good opportunity for newcomers to learn some basic orienteering techniques for navigating in bush terrain. Learn what it means to aim off, follow a handrail, use an attack point or get caught in a catching feature.
This training will be held on Saturday 8 March, starting at 10am. The meeting point is at one of the picnic tables at the southern end of the Coffs Harbour Foreshore.
If you still have a copy of the Jetty map that was used during the promotional “Give it a Go” series last year, then bring it along with you. If you have a compass, bring that as well.
Please let Bruce know if you intend coming by phoning or texting to 0426 876 316 or sending an email: firstname.lastname@example.org so that he knows how many maps to print. Also, if there is anyone under 20 years of age coming along then please let Bruce know that.
