RACE #2
Coffs Harbour once again turned on awesome racing conditions for the second race of the season. This drew 82 people to the sprint distance course and 32 to the enticer distance. Daniel Stein and Jacinta Smithers were fastest male and female, with 0:57:55 and 1:11:31 respectively. Times at the front of the pack were almost exactly the same as the last race, a testimony to the consistency of athletes such as Joe Kane (1:02:51) and Marcus O’Brien (1:05:33). And the hard work of others is starting to pay dividends, with the likes of Hadley Black (1:12:54), Ian Howchin (1:17:53), Wendy Maley (1:26:01), Ken Crabb (1:26:07) and Todd Blewitt (1:19:30) all showing significant improvement.
Times on the enticer course are also coming down. Jayde Viles (0:49:36), Scott Thompson (0:43:34) and Emily Malouf (0:42:25) all posted times several minutes faster than the first race.

With the run course now slightly longer than previous years, it will be hard to compare course records. But for those who are interested, the best male and female times in the 2012-13 season were 0:54:53 (Richard Pearson) and 1:03:10 (Laura Cook) for the sprint distance and 0:34:09 (Jake Brown) and 0:37:24 (Kalina Bennett) for the enticer distance.

Lots of CHTC members are showing good form as the season gets underway and many personal records are sure to be broken.

It was a great day of racing on Sunday, and congratulations to all who competed.

CLUB UNIFORMS
A sure-fire way to improve your times is to wear a CHTC triathlon suit. Not only will club pride hurtle you faster along the course, but you’ll look great at the same time! Why struggle along in your old, baggy tri suit? A new, slick suit in club colours is just what you need to propel you through the new season.

To assist you in this, Michelle Clarke will be placing an order on 6th October. She has samples available to try on for size. Just give Michelle a call on 0412091449 or email shellclarke88@gmail.com to arrange a time.

‘TIS (GETTING CLOSE TO) THE SEASON…
Hard to believe, but plans are already in place to celebrate Christmas in CHTC style.

Our Christmas party will be held on Saturday 7th December at 6:30pm at Mangrove Jacks at the Promenade, 321 Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour. There will be food aplenty, for carb loading purposes naturally. Vegetarians will also be catered for. Tickets are $20.

For catering purposes, tickets need to be prepaid via EFT to the Club bank account (BSB 704 328 Account No 197693 S11). Please use your name as the reference in the transaction.

AND WHILE WE’RE AT IT…
Even harder to think about at this point in time, but plans are also in place for the end of season dinner.

So put a “save the date” in your calendar for this not-to-be-missed event on Saturday 10th May at 6:30pm. This year’s venue is C.Ex Club Coffs Harbour and the program is shaping up to be entertaining and a great way to finish off what is proving to be a stellar season. There will be the usual season awards and induction of life members.  But the highlight will be the much anticipated return of the “Cliffy Awards”, named in honour of our venerable MC Cliff Lloyd and celebrating some of the more embarrassing achievements of our Club members. Finally, a famous and special guest from the Triathlon world will be in attendance.

Watch this space for more details.

SYDNEY RUNNING FESTIVAL
A couple of members travelled to Sydney on the weekend for the very scenic Sydney Running Festival.

Ellie Luhr completed the Half Marathon in 2:36:46 and Andrew Pitzen took on the 9.2km race in 0:46:27.
Congratulations to you both!

Don’t forget if you’re racing then we want to know about it! Just email details of the race to coffstrinews@gmail.com so your achievements can be shared with all members. Or, even better, dob in your mates if they are too shy! All contributions are welcome.
