FIRST FULL RACE 2014
Sunday’s race saw the club circuit back in full swing and the race did not disappoint. The hard work of many members is starting to pay dividends, with several PBs and new benchmarks set.
Richard Pearson was in typically fast form, with Daniel Stein hot on his heels. Only 53 seconds separated them. Aimee Sutton was the fastest female in a hot time of 1:08:28. The hot weather did nothing to slow other members down. Lee Varney, Vicki Tillott, Anne Grundy and Reuben van Wyngaardt all posted times that were PBs, or very close to PB. A warm welcome back to Debra Tennant who put in a great race after time away with a persistent injury.
Jai Lyons brought the short course home in a winning time of 0:38:02, with Matthew Marsden and Timothy Martin not far behind. Joanne Fergusson was the fastest female. Good to see so many juniors racing over the short course.
Thanks to all the members on duty this week for helping the race to run smoothly.

RULE OF THE WEEK
As triathletes, we need to have a full understanding of the rules of our sport. In fact one of the rules is that competitors must know the rules! To help our members learn and understand the Triathlon Australia Race Competition Rules, a different rule will be included in newsletters every week.

BCU COFFS TRI
Mick Maley and the team at Village Sports would like to thank all those members who have volunteered their time to help out at the BCU Tri on the Saturday or Sunday events. Many of you have put your hands up to do both duties on Saturday.
They are still a little short for Sundays roster. If there is anyone still interested in helping out please contact Mick ASAP on email@example.com.
Also, Village Sports have received a sudden wave of entries over the past four days so please do not leave it until the last minute to enter. There have been heaps of entries from the Sydney and South Queensland areas which all looks good. This is our chance to show off our area as a premier triathlon/multisport/holiday destination and also to race on home turf.

RACE DOWN UNDER
Numbers are growing for our team in the Race Down Under, where all your training runs and races will contribute to your race “around Australia”.
By tracking your runs over a calendar year and submitting them to the race director you accumulate virtual kilometres and reach virtual milestones in the race around Australia. The gun goes off at 12:01am on 1st January 2014 and finishes at 11:59pm on 31st December 2014. Entry costs $55 and includes a hat, race singlet and race number. There are monthly prizes as well as age group prizes.
If we get 20 members to register, Run Down Under will donate $10 per person back to the Club. Your results are registered both as an individual and as a club member.

SITTING IS THE NEW SMOKING??
You may have seen the recent flurry of articles claiming that our sedentary lives are leading to all sorts of diseases and conditions, even for those who exercise regularly. For those of us sitting down all day in office jobs, this is very disheartening to learn. Trying to find ways to incorporate more activity into our days can be very difficult when there are deadlines, KPIs, customers, emails and phone calls to attend to.
Some workplaces are introducing measures to incorporate more activity in their day while still enabling their staff to work in an office. Swiss balls, stand-up workstations, even elliptical cross trainers instead of chairs! These are just some of the things gradually coming into the modern office workplace.
A quick internet search will give you a wealth of articles relating to this subject. If you don’t have time to trawl the web, there are some good articles written in layman’s terms on the Runner’s World website. FORD COMMUNITY EVENT
Too easy? Money for nothing? Sounds too good to be true? Yep, it’s real.
Ford are donating $1000 to CHTC as part of their Ford Community Event. All our club members have to do is go to Mike Blewitt Ford in Coffs Harbour and register to take a test drive. Tell them you are a member of Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club, and after 25 members have taken a test drive Ford will donate $1000 to the club. There are no obligations to buy, no sales pressure, no heavy salesmen. This is just a Ford community event.
So if you’ve always wanted to try out the latest model Ford, now is the perfect time to do so. Word has it that the Kuga or the Escort are well worth trying out.
