17/5/2015 0 Comments weekly newsletter 19 may 2015CHTC WINS AGAIN!!! From the President Many thanks to all those who travelled down for the Club Champs 2015, whether you competed, volunteered, cheered, supported, took photos, babysat etc, etc. Congratulations on doing your bit for the club and contributing to a great weekend. Special thanks to Mick Maley and Michelle Clarke for organising the catering and of course to Vicki Tillot. What can we say? We are very fortunate to have Vicki in our club. We may have awoken a few sleeping bears after going so close last year, as the Sydney Clubs arrived in full flight. Still, Country Champs is another very proud moment in our Club’s history. A quick check of the records show that over the last sixteen years the competition has been in place, Coffs has triumphed nine times. A few highlights, Dr Paul Dance giving up a quite a few places to assist a distressed member from another club on the run leg, only to be passed by his “patient” a little further on. Nicole Martin’s effort in the Eno challenge at the post function. That was true commitment. And lastly our Tunnel of Love stretched for nearly twenty metres welcoming and cheering our club members and a few other clubs’ members across the finish line. Don’t forget our AGM and presentation on Friday the 29th, hope to see you all there. Additional note: Check out Triathlon NSW’s Facebook page for some great photos from the race. There are also heaps of photos on the club’s open Facebook page. Thanks to our photo contributors! AGM & PRESENTATION Our final business for the season is the AGM & Presentation at Pasfields Restaurant on Friday 29th May. The AGM starts at 6:15pm, followed by the Presentation evening at 7pm. Members are reminded that they need to transfer $30 per person ($15 for juniors) for the Presentation night into the club account. Karen and Kristy need the money to finalise numbers with Pasfields. The account details are: BSB 704328 Account No 197693. Please also notify Karen of any dietary requirements – vegetarians, gluten free, dairy free, nut free, etc. Please email Karen at [email protected]. All members are strongly encouraged to attend the AGM as this is your opportunity to have your say about the way the club is run. All committee positions are vacated at the AGM and new people are voted into the positions. The positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Race Director, Publicity Officer, General Committee Members, Uniform Officer, Handicapper, Registrar, Webmaster, Social Co-ordinator, Club Coach, Historian and Gear Steward. Every member is most welcome to nominate for any of these positions. We hope to see as many members as possible at both the AGM and Presentation for our final send-off for the 2014/15 season. IRONMAN BEER MILE CHALLENGE Not many members would be aware that Jason Limbert is such an accomplished Ironman triathlete at such a young age. He has completed a total of 6 Ironman races and all by the tender age of 22! Both Jason and his dad, Chris, featured very well on the weekend at Forster. Jason, along with Keaton Ingram, travels from Grafton for most of our Club races. However, Jason has another feather in his triathlon cap. This year he won the very prestigious Ironman Australia 30th Anniversary Transitions Beer Mile held the day after IMOz in Port Macqurie. Only those who finish the IM can enter the Beer Mile and even the MC (Peter Woods) has to have finished within the time. There are some luminaries in the crowd, such as Ken Baggs who was Race Director of IM in Australia for 30 years, but has now stepped up to Race Director of the Beer Mile. Also, Dave Ross, who has finished each one of the 30 IMOz races since 1985, and Karen Pini who has presented the medals to the finishers at the end of IMOz for over 25 years. All 3 of these people are IMOz Hall of Famers. But back to Jason…his dad, Chris, and Keaton Ingram have raced the last 5 IMs and Beer Miles at Port Mac. So, in 5 years’ time, both Jason and Keaton will be 10 Year Legends at the ripe old age of 27!!! Below are links to the Beer Mile video on You Tube, as well as an article from the Daily Examiner featuring Jason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCNgW9I4i7w&feature=youtu.be http://www.dailyexaminer.com.au/news/made-from-iron-ironman/2630687/ Congratulations Jason! A great effort on so many levels. CAN’T SIT STILL? Hanging out to race again? Can’t sit still? Need a goal race? Well then look no further. Entries are now open for the Bendigo Bank Coffs Harbour Running Festival. Organised by our Platinum Sponsors, Village Sports, this is fast becoming a key race on the running calendar. Don’t miss the opportunity to race on our favourite loop on the Coffs Creek and gain the home ground advantage. There is an event for everyone - Half Marathon, 10km, 5km Fun Run/Walk , 3km Family Fun Run/Walk. The whole family can get involved!
