15/8/2014 0 Comments Weekly newsletter 12 august 2014ADVENTURETHON COFFS HARBOUR If you want to try your hand at a multi-sport adventure with a difference, then the Coffs Harbour Adventurethon on 11 & 12 October may be just what you’re looking for. This event was held last year with great feedback from all participants. There are events for all levels of fitness, with the Ultra being the big one. If you don’t think you can paddle 16km, run 10.69km, ride 35km and back it up with a 6km run then perhaps try one of the other smaller distances. There is also a duathlon for those not keen on the paddle, and a junior & beginner event for those who just want to give it a try. The organisers have promised a particularly tough mountain bike ride in the surrounding hills for the Ultra and the duathlon. Time to get muddy! Our race calendar has been cleared for the weekend so that members can participate. See the attached flyer or https://adventurethon.com.au/cms25/index.php/event-locations/coffs-harbour-nsw for more details. The race organisers are also calling for volunteers to help out over the weekend. From the organisers – “Coffs Harbour Adventurethon Australia is getting closer and we are looking for a great team of volunteers to make this event AWESOME (and safe)! A range of roles available, only prerequisite is that you can smile and encourage our athletes from first to last!!! Great opportunity for clubs or businesses to get involved (and get some FREE marketing). Email [email protected] for more information. Register online https://adventurethon.com.au/cms25/index.php/volunteering.” TOUR DE CURE TRIVIA NIGHT If anyone is still keen to get tickets for Tour de Cure Trivia night then you need to get in quick. It's getting very close to capacity. Get a team together for the night, dress up in your best sports finery (come on, you ALL have trisuits!) and get yourself to Novatel Pacific Bay Resort on Friday 5th September. The evening will be hosted by Mark Beretta. $50 a head gets you a buffet dinner, trivia and a fun night out for a great cause with all proceeds going to the Tour de Cure to raise funds for the fight against cancer. SALT MULTISPORT FESTIVAL Corporate Challenge Events are offering our members one free entry to the SALT Multisport Festival to be held on 4th & 5th October 2014 in Kingscliff. The first person to send an email to [email protected] with the answer to this question will be given the free entry. “We almost took out Club Championships this year and missed out by only a few points. How many more points did we need?” Be quick! Last year’s free entry went very quickly. This is a really interesting event. It’s an Olympic distance triathlon, but broken over 2 days. You do the swim & ride on the Saturday then run on the Sunday. More information and registration details can be found at http://www.corporatechallenge.com.au/fun-runs/salt-multisport-festival. As an incentive to our club - if 5 or more people from the club sign up for ALL 3 events, one lucky person will have their entry fee refunded and RACE FOR FREE. Even better, get 10 members involved in all 3 events and one lucky person will receive a night's accommodation at SALT over the race weekend (as well as a free entry for the group). Get 20 or more members signed up and receive both of the above PLUS a snacks and drinks package for the team on Sunday after the race FREE!!! Personally, I’m in it for the snacks & drinks. THE SECRET WAY TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR BIKE Got your attention now? Oh yeah, we’re all after shortcuts to get better/faster/stronger. This is a really interesting article that will resonate with anyone who has ever paid good money for the latest gadget or gear in the hope that it will make them go faster. Spoiler alert: your body is the weapon of choice. http://firstoffthebike.com/tri-training/secret-way-get-bike/ RULE OF THE WEEK Bike rules again. This time it’s blocking and illegal passes – something we’ve all witnessed at some point no doubt. 3.7 Illegal Pass A competitor passing on the inside (left hand side) of another competitor will receive an Illegal Pass penalty. 3.8 Blocking A competitor who has completed a pass and is not passing another competitor or motorcycle or vehicle and who fails to move safely and immediately to the left of the cycle lane will receive a Blocking penalty. LEG SPEED OF A LEGEND Your legs are always a bit wobbly after getting off the bike and going into T2, right? One of the skills we triathletes try to build on is the ability to run well off the bike. Well, have a look at this highlights reel of Peter “Robbo” Robertson who finished his ITU career in 2010 with three world titles, two World Championship silver medals, a Commonwealth Games bronze medal, and two Olympic appearances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdN1yYz86Jc#t=104 Specifically, check out the leg speed he demonstrates coming off the bike at around 1:30 in the video. Legs like that were last seen in a Tom & Jerry cartoon. Bear in mind he’s probably travelling at around 35km/hr at the time and, remarkably, remaining upright when most of us can feel the face plant just watching the footage. CHTC CLASSIFIEDS
