Cool conditions greeted our dedicated members for today's enticer and standard distances.
42 lined up for sprint distance with a swim in a very warm harbour, a nice way to start the mornings event, despite some wetsuit comments being shouted out in the 5 min wave. MALES Trev Fidge continued his fine form with a comfortable win. Always at the pointy end, Trev's superior running skills saw him clock a 1:04 overall, with a 19:10 run split. Powering through the water, Matt Moffat claimed 2nd with a 1:06, and Ben Law running a sub 20 for 3rd in 1:07. Huge effort from Shaun Bayndrian to back up his 16k Sat run to claim 4th spot, Port half his next event to conquer. Great to see Mick Doughty having a spin, he claimed today's quickest swim split. Also good to see Mick Stubbs working into some form, and Scott Tarplee, after a long lay with injury also acquitted himself well, fastest in the 10min wave. Bob Aspden is another face we haven't see for a while, Bob having a very slick run. Big welcome back to the fittest Truckee in the country in Phil Viles, also battling an injury , or age, but he hasn't lost his run speed.😂 Bryan Van Der Walt had a nice even race, and huge effort from Gary Ward, a Kempsey native that joins us for every race. Welcome back Andrew Thomson, and a great run from Glen McPhee, on holidays from Sydney. Lloyd Mason was consistent and solid again, while Tony Cross won the battle of the Crosses, edging Adam Cross who finished his first year off with an impressive 1:23. Pete Giddins just keeps getting the job done, as does the treasurer, Pete Roberts. John Widdowson looked very strong on the bike leg, and we can't mistake the John Murray running style, good to see you out there John. We hope you enjoyed your first event Matt Cumberworth, while Chris Hodge battled a flat tyre to still finish 5th, and Shawn Lawer put together a solid race. Well done to all the lads. FEMALES, Nice way to close out the season for Shannon O'Hara claiming victory in the ladies category , and finishing 5th overall in a time of 1:08:55. It's been an outstanding season for Shannon. Running into 2nd, and improving with every event she does is Alira Bayndrian with a 1:21, and bragging rights in the house. Our Sydney visitor Ingrid McPhee can also claim family honours with a 3rd placing in 1:22:27, just 17 seconds in front of her husband. Danielle Brooke had a great first up race, hopefully she will be back again, and nice to see Dr Amy having some fun on course this morning. Well done to Katrina McFarlane, with another sound performance, while new comer Katerina Law excelled. Trace Singleton would be please with her efforts today, another successful season of racing. Really impressive race from Elisabeth Arif, she has worked incredibly hard, and it shows. 💪👊 A fast run for Kristen Pigram highlighting her squad efforts are paying dividends, and Caron Mackie capped off another stellar event. But our favourite sexatary of all time, Jennifer Williams, again showed the spirit in which we all do this. I don't think there has been to many weekends this year when Jen hasn't done an event. She does every race with an amazing positive attitude, and is always encouraging, a key ingredient into why we have a very good club. Well done ladies. SHORT COURSE. Jack McLaughlin finished off a very impressive season winning a packet of tim tams, and putting it on Insta for all his fans to see. Well done Jack. Kath Robson had a great race set up by a fast swim split, and Jo Magill snuck into 3rd spot by just 2 seconds from Paul Killey, while Pam Eberstadt is joining up next year to have more races and Rebecca Varney always steps up for the challenge. As always massive thanks to our volunteers for getting the race set up. In particular our members that stepped up to assist at the last minute. We look forward to the phots as snapped by Sarvii Thompson. Thanks again, your are a trouper. Bob Williams made sure everyone was well fed at the BBQ station, and thank you to Sarvi Thompson for organising the muesli , fruit, yogurt, all supplied by the Happy Frog , how nice was the muesli! BYRON BAY... 90 confirmed, with room for another 15. Avoid disappointment and declare your interest immediately . It's shaping up to be a huge opportunity for the Coffs Rockets to claim victory in the inaugural North Coast Series, with a large number of our members looking to add maximum points for the club. Some disturbing news though, one of our very elite athletes who would be good for points in the Olympic event has apparently gone soft and entered in the shorter event. We don't like to name names, but Chris Hodge , what are you doing. AGM -PRESENTATION NIGHT. It all happens May 18: 6:00pm start for the AGM, with 5 vacancies, being Treasurer, Secretary, Social Planner, Volunteer coordinator , Race Director.
