Big thanks to our race day sponsor BOB Wallis Cycles
A really good turnout today for the annual teams challenge. We tasted a little bit of winter this morning. A Very cold southerly saw everyone reaching for their fleecy tops, all crowded together to escape the biting winds - but seriously, who turns up with ugg boots. Club tech officer Nashy, that hairy body of yours should have been enough insulation, that's a red card penalty for sure!🤣🤣🤣 Handicapper Mick Booth was working overtime to get us away on time, and After some minor alterations to regos , the teams were announced. 34 members became 17 teams in Division 1, while Division 2 saw a smaller but dedicated field This is a wonderful way to meet and get to know fellow members of the club. High handicap paired with low handicap to make it an even race as possible First across the line is the winner, bragging rights for 12 months. I know Cliffy still brags about it 4 years on🤣🤣👏 Even though the results will show differently, it is based on first across the line. With only 5 mins to get to know each other and discuss tactics, it was go time. While the lead group took off in the swim, the rest of us rugged up, teeth chattering, looking to gain an advantage in the transition area. With Plenty of good banter happening , it didn't take long for the race faces to appear. Things we do for a packet of tim tams 🐷🐷 It was a crowded field as each team worked extra hard to gain some advantage. The lead ebbed and flowed and it wasn't until the run leg that we could see how the placing would go But bragging rights go to Sue Flanders and Shaun Bayndrian putting in a masterful performance to claim 1st place. They get to remind everyone how fast they are over the next 12 months. 2nd across the line was the very young team of Fiona McPherson and yours truely, well Fiona was the young one While running into 3rd was Sam Smyth and John Widdowson , well done lads. Well done to everyone today. This event is a great example of why we do club races, plenty of camaraderie and support from everyone for everyone. Division 2 saw Rod and Sheldon Koopmans brace the cool conditions and team up to do a father/son race. Another opportunity to create yet another family memory Alina Hill found the courage to part with her layers of fleecy clothes to tackle the enticer distance on her own. Big thanks to all of volunteers, especially those on the water, hope you thawed out . Thanks also to Barry from Bob Wallis Cycles for his vouchers to give away. Don't forget, they have a big sale happening, 5% of your purchase goes back to the club. BYRON BAY....
