Coffs Jetty turned on a superb flat swim this morning for the first non wet suit swim of the season. A steady westerly at times making for a challenging bike and run though some of us seem to revel in the conditions. Highlights at one point were seeing a flurry of riders hot on each others non-drafting heels led by Pat Brennan heading back to transition. Thanks to the volunteers and to you all for ensuring you were all safe out there with no incidents to report. Thanks again for everyone for riding safely and remembering to stay upright from the Jetty car wash to the Jetty Hotel and in and out of Marine Parade from the Yacht Club to the railway crossing past the Jordan Esplanade roundabout. 41 turned out with 4 in the Enticer, 2 doing the Aquabike and 35 for the Sprint distance. Big welcomes go to new members Millie Cooke and Guy Newton and to our visitors, Slade, Scott Tarplee, Ross Burgess, and Rourke Armstrong. In the Enticer Slade McInerney from Tamworth riding a quick mountain bike came home in the fastest time of 44:29 followed by Maria Wood in 45:52 and in third place Lee Varney on 51:05. Our first Sprint female was Shannon O’Hara maintaining consistent form in 1:12:07 followed by Kate Marsden 1:18:30 and Alina Hill in 1:18.51. In our males Sprint event, a steady improving Pat Brennan was pretty stoked to come across the line in 1:04.37 in first place ahead of Adrian Hawke 1:06:03 and Michael Brennan 1:08:09. Congratulations Shannon and Pat! Chris Hodge took out the aquabike in 1:01:11 followed by Tina Benoit in 1:27:22. For the wave starts fastest finishers were Eli White (scratch), Andrea Burth (wave 1 – 5 mins), Michael Brennan (wave 2 – 10 mins) and Pat Brennan (wave 3 – 15 minutes). Encouragement awards go to a solid Maria Wood looking good across the line in the Enticer while our Volunteer of the Week goes to Marg Roberts for your early assistance setting up transition, starting prowess and keeping Pete in check! Thanks too go to Sarah Marsden for helping out with a sore foot! Winners of the Enticer, Sprint, our Volunteer of the week and Encouragement Award at the presentation grabbed the tim tams and a $25 voucher kindly from Carl Mower to use at the Bistro at either the Sawtell, Toormina or Moonee Beach Hotel. Thanks kindly to very generous support of today’s sponsors of our event Karl Phillips from Advanced Automotive and Michelle Clarke at Hair at the Promenade. Karl not only sponsored the event he also did a great job volunteering that was appreciated by everyone. Michelle has recently relocated and if you need a hair makeover can be contacted at 6651 4228. Kim from the Happy Frog (last race sponsor) dropped in and kindly provided $5 vouchers for all those members to call in and grab a wholesome and scrummy feed. Please continue to support our sponsors as they help us continue to be able to put on and provide our seasons races. To all those members that challenged themselves at Hervey Bay congratulations and similarly to those that ventured north to Kingscliff last weekend for the first race of the North Coast Series. Fantastic results across the board. A reminder that the second North Coast series event is the Yamba Tri is on next weekend (4 December) and good luck to all those taking on this very scenic course. The Club has made a commitment this season to prepare a 10 year Strategic Plan. A sub-committee has been formed with Jen Booth, Pete Roberts, Chris Hamilton and Peter Birch to guide its development through a project and communications plan. Initial stages will include engagement with all members through an on line survey followed by a short workshop expecting to be held straight after the next race presentation (from about 9am for an hour or so) on 18 December 2022. Your feedback and input will be appreciated to ensure we all develop a Plan that will build on our cherished history while guiding future activities and development of the Club. More will follow on this so please keep on eye out for Facebook/Insta and Emails around this important project. Our next event is the Teams event on 18 December – a chance to share some of that pain (and cheer) with a mate! Its close to end of year so lets celebrate with some Christmas dress ups, Santa hats, tinsel, almost anything red and green goes with covered tummys. The Club Christmas party will also be held on the afternoon of 18 December at the Toormina Hotel - details to follow very soon. Train well and stay safe! Cheers Peter Birch, Race Director
