16/12/2018 0 Comments Race Seven - 16 December 2018Thanks to long time club sponsor Mike Blewitt Ford.
Our last race for 2018 and terrific to see 60 members front up only to be greeted with overcast conditions moving into some light rain that meant some adjustments on the bike leg. The swim leg also had a slight alteration due to the dredging machine rudely parked on our patch. Shannon O'Hara's superior run speed was again on show grabbing another 1st placing with a 1:10:27 and finishing 5th overall. Battling a very nasty illness, Mel Silvester fronted up and still did a brilliant race to grab 2nd with a 1:14 neat and Melissa Shaw continues her impressive start to the sport with a 1:19:05 earning her a packet of tim tams and 3rd placing. Kylie Marle had another outstanding race and nice to see Sally Peterson showing some good form. Hayley Fullers bike training is paying dividends and great to see Alira Bayndrian being rewarded for her consistency getting herself a PB of 1:23:15. Karen Chia had a ripping good run split, getting 14th overall, while Tracy 'Mrs' Singleton rivals Tina Benoit for the biggest smile in race mode. The girl with a hyphenated name just always impresses, Fiona Bryant-Smith just gets the job done. Katrina McFarlane, Bella Bowes and Caron Mackie had a 3way ding dong battle. Great to have Tamworth resident Sue-Anne Swindon join us for the 1st time and Wendy Maley sizzled on course as her husband did the same to the snags and always a pleasure to have Ellie Luhre down from the top of the mountain . Well done to all the ladies. Mat Nicol showed he is ready for the longer version blitzing the field in the enticer with a time of 36:10. Col Williams worked well to place 2nd and what a great effort from Corey Warn to place 3rd . Well done to everyone in the enticer event today. With Isaiah Koopmans on work duties, it was a matter of whether Mick Ylinen could crack the 1hour barrier, he was close, finishing first in 1:02:29, with another junior performing exceptionally well in Jyii Mann finishing 2nd in 1:04:57. Staying with the young blokes, Trev Fidge snaffled 3rd placing in 1:05:17. Shaun Bayndrian had another ripper of race, and great to see Glen George back into it. Mick Singleton had yet another solid race, and beware of Bailey Offord once his bike times improve. Ed Brazier was his usual solid self, and Rory Evans has made great improvements in his short career to date. Steve Thompson continues to build for HOTW, Bob Aspden was back with a bang, Leon Petrohelos, Tom Handel, Andrew Thomson and Chris Hamilton all raced well. Glen Barnett was consistent again, Paul Billings did really well. Tony Cross got his bike split under 40, and great to see Pete Roberts pacing himself nicely, while Michael Henderson mastered the conditions with a consistent race. All the way from Kempsey, new member Gary Ward showed plenty of promise. Ian Howchin, Pete Giddins and Lloyd Mason all within a minute of each other. After some gentle social media ribbing from Pete Woods, Kenny Crabb issued him a challenge , but the 38 time Ironman just couldn't quite get there today. Well done chaps. Huge thanks to all our volunteers today, in fact, to the halfway point, thank you to all our volunteers for the earlier starts, it does make a massive difference. Thanks to Lachy Marle and Paul Courtney for helping out with minimal notice. Thanks to Rocinda Koopmans and Jen Booth for setting up the breakfast area and to Mick Maley and Phil Benoit for cooking up a feast for the masses. As always, we are very fortunate that we have Jorja Wells to capture everyone in their racing finest. A young lady who loves photography, its your continued encouragement that is greatly appreciated. Run Swim Run happens every Thursday - meet at 5.15 pm just on the south side of the yacht club at the Jetty steps. The 2.5k run, 600m swim 2.5k run starts at 5:30'sharp. Hard to believe we are at the halfway point of the season! BCU triathlon will be the focus for a lot of the members when we return. A reminder that we need members to volunteer at this event. Dutyman is now set up, so please log in and put your name down. On behalf of the committee , we wish you all a terrific Christmas and New Year. Be safe on the roads if you are traveling . PT
