12/4/2023 0 Comments Race Report #8 - 2 April 2023So 29 strong and inspired women headed into the Harbour for the swim at the start of what for a few would be their first Triathlon. For many others it was a return crack at triathlon! Congratulations! Elize Strydom led a steady stream of smiling Enticer swimmers followed by Delenn Croaker into transition and out onto the bike course. Mel Silvester kindly volunteered to help out Kath Corinth on the bike while Alina Hill helped guide daughter Monique and Carla did the same for Delenn. It felt like in no time most of the Enticer women were back getting ready for the run!
Not long after the scratch starters the Sprint course women emerged after a high tide swim, into colourful transition. Shannon O’Hara show’d the way followed by Club President Julie Whitton and Rainee Herron. They were being followed by a group with Andrea, Jo Fergusson, Kathy Robson, Kristen Nash, Robyn, Marg Roberts, Kathryn Gibney, Claire Fairweather, Wendy, Shirley, Ellie and Tina with newcomers Annabelle Swainston and Ann Drew all hitting the bike. All women came back through transition and headed out on the run. Despite the south west breeze, the overcast cooler conditions suited many. Elize Strydom came through in the Enticer followed by Delenn Croaker and a courageous effort by Monique Hill in third. Shannon led the Sprint distance women through to the finish, followed by Julie Whitton and Rainee Herron. One of the many highlights would have to be a terrific run finish technique by Kristen Nash - amazing! Full results will be at http://www.coffstri.com/results.html and after a short delay we expect them to be there Tuesday. For those using Strava check out this race report that can also be found there. Encouragement award of a $25 voucher from Moonee Beach Tavern was given to Kathleen Corinth while gift packs were provided to 5th place Annabelle Swainston, 10th place Kathryn Gibney and 15th placed Shirley Sneddon. The Coffs Coast Nutrition prizes went to developing club member triathletes Claire Fairweather, Delenn Croaker and Kathy Robson. and random draw prizes went to Kristen Nash, Amy Brockbank and Annabelle Swainston. Well done mentions also go to Elana Balderston, Tess Hawkins, and Bree Rooney! Thanks to today's race sponsors. Firstly to TriNSW for supporting this initiative to encourage women to try the sport without any pressure and to learn in a welcoming friendly environment. Major sponsor PhysAbility has been a regular supporter of the Club thanks to Jo MaGill. PhysAbility provides a range of services from personal training, psychosocial coaching, and disability support services that align with NDIS goals to the Coffs region and beyond. Today’s sponsors also include the Moonee Tavern providing random draw vouchers, The Happy Frog for fruit and muesli, Tims Butchery at Palm Central for the BBQ, Hair at the Promenade, and Coffs Coast Nutrition who provided three developing members with an opportunity to seek some nutrition advice. Let's all continue to support our terrific sponsors. And special thanks to our Committee members who coordinated today’s event led by competing Club President Julie Whitton, Jen Booth for all things promotion, publicity and photos, and Jen Williams for putting together the race gift packs. Hope I haven’t missed anyone! Thanks to Cecil Tempone for volunteering on the BBQ and to the males that filled up the volunteer roster, especially to Hudson for getting us started and Michael Singleton for heading out on the run course. And to Mick Booth and Pete Roberts for the registration, timing and ensuring everyone received their race numbers and timing chips. Lets acknowledge our new coaching team Annette, Mel and Trent who offered pre-race training sessions and to help with preparation and on the day. Our next event is a Sprint/Enticer and Aquabike on 16 April that will also include an option for all those women at today’s event to register at no cost to do this one. There will either be a coupon code for this when registering or if not the Club will refund all entries for anyone competing at today’s event. More on that shortly. We still need a few volunteers to fill the roster. It is expected that the tentative event on 30 April will now be run with an option for a longer course of 1km swim, 30km bike and 7.5km run instead of the standard Sprint. The Enticer and Aquabike will also be operating. This relies on those that have still to do a volunteer duty to step up and fill in a role. On other news well done to those athletes that recently competed up at Kingscliff that is part of the North Coast Series. Coffs is currently sitting in second place and it would be awesome to see a crew head up to the next event to take on a Sprint or Olympic level at Byron Bay on 13 May. The Sprint race is part of the NSW Championships. And of course its time to Save the Date for the Club Championships (1km swim/ 27km bike/ 8km run) on Saturday 27 May 2023 to be held from Forster Main Beach using a revamped bike and run course hosted by Tri NSW and run by H Events. The Club has booked 50 accommodation beds that are sponsored and will include two nights and food and drinks on Saturday night. More to come on that. So when you see it get in and put your name down for this one as a great end of season celebration. A reminder that the survey for the Club’s Strategic Business Plan closes tomorrow. The survey can be accessed here at https://mailchi.mp/b6fa1947070c/club-race-30-october-6225461 or alternatively please return surveys to Club Secretary Phil Benoit at [email protected], or return by handing to a Committee member. Thank you everyone for having an enjoyable morning! Catch you on the 16 April! In the meantime train well and stay safe! Peter Birch Race Director
