Today's race sponsored by Village Sports and Chicken Butchery.
Absolutely perfect conditions for our season opener, and 71 excited, fit and amazing people embraced the slightly revised course with wonderful enthusiasm. From all reports, the transition area worked well, so a big thank you to everyone for taking the time to read and understand the changes. Helping us to understand the transition area a little easier was our resident and self appointed Action Man Griffo, putting a ripping hangover aside to strut his stuff for us - thanks Griffo?? To all our new 1 day participants, awesome job out there, we hope today helped you to achieve something new and rewarding, and we look forward to seeing you participate more often. To our new members that have made the commitment to race the season, a big Lycra welcome to you. We hope today is the start of a wonderful and fulfilling journey, filled with excitement and PBs. Nice to see some of our past members back again, and to all the existing members, I am sure your excitement levels went up a notch or 2 knowing we are now into another season, with a lot of you looking like there has been no off season holiday. Today's Enticer event saw 11 debutants in a field of 18 go helter skelter for their 1 lap of the course. Debuting at club level, 14 yr Lachy Marle sizzled using his mums famous running genes to pinch the win over Tara Everson who is slowly getting back to the fitness from last season. Tom Ylinens off season growth spurt meant he is now taller than mum ??, and his longer legs covered the ground quicker to claim 3rd. Jack Mclaughlin claims the family bragging rights to finish 4th. Great first up effort from Ben Piscitello, Cecily McCowage, Donna Edwards , Kath Robson, while Cec Tempone succumbed to the constant nagging of Woodsy , and brushed off the cobwebs. Well done to Jodie and Craig Shone who have had a few yrs off, but didn't miss a beat, Fiona OMeara had a terrific run Split, while a strong bike split set Jo Magill up for a good time, and Clare Judd was consistent across all 3. Josh Patricks showed some good speed on the run leg, Sheldon Koopmans had the quickest swim time and Patricia O'loughlin continues her improvement, and you couldn't wipe the smile off Mick Darlow. Well done to you all The long course is a virtual copy and paste from last season. For the Ladies, Mel Silvester impressed again with a 1:08, clearly working hard over the off season. A small glitch in the timing at our presentation, in fact sees Shannon OHara claim 2nd place with a 1:11:54, meaning Jules Darlow's improving run leg gives her a 3rd placing in 1:12 and Kate Marsdens consistency in all 3 legs placing her into 4th with a 1:15, and Hadley Black claims 5th placing. Apologies for the error at presentation this morning...Although I think Hads has already eaten the Tim Tams ?? Lois Oliver continues her improvement on the run leg, and a terrific debut from Hayley Fuller, easily eclipsing coach Cliffy's efforts, which is now bound to be very competitive . Penny Hearn, Alira Bayndrian,Amy Weber all had a tight tussle. Marg Roberts worked off some birthday cake ??HB Marg . Kath Gibney has nailed her transition sitting skills, ??and Kona bound Anne Grundy used today as a tapering session. Sarvi was baking banana bread till 2am, and keeps the local banana growers in business??, but still put in an 'appeeling' performance Kudos to Emma Sutton, Wendy Maley, Susanna O'Sullivan, Charmaine Harrington and Jen Williams for another consistent race. In the Male event, Huge effort from Isaiah Koopmans to claim the podium in 59:26, after his ITU race last weekend. Hot on his heels, and looking very aerodynamic was Mick Ylinen, also backing up from last weekend in the same event for a 1:02, and fresh from the soft powder of Thredbo, Matt Moffat with a 1:03:16. Pat Brennan and Trev Fidge had a ding dong battle and MJ Garner could be and should be ?thrashed at run squad on Tuesday for not letting coach Rollo finish in front of him! Welcome back Andy, with a 19 min run Split, 4th fastest for the day??? Hodgy is apparently already texting Paul Herring their result?? and a fantastic performance from Jyii Mann to post a 1:07, and 3rd fastest run Split for the day. Mr Woolgoolga, Phil Benoit had another strong run leg, great to see Andy Wellington back racing, Bailey Offord excelled over the distance, but, got a bit work to do catch his mate Jyii?? Solid efforts from Shaun Bayndrian, Ed Brasier, Brent Russo, Bob Aspden, while Scott Tarplee and Bryan van der Walt had a close tussle. Ian Swanborough made it back from the Whitsundays, Leon Petrohelos, Craig Allen, Ian Howchin and Angus Roberts all putting in a solid outing. Pete Robbo, cruised along, and Ian 'let me fill your water bottle' Nash was wet before he started......??? Lloyd Mason , Trent Tyas and John Murray all had Pete Woods covered . Adam Cross performed exceptionally for his first tilt at triathlons. Big thanks to all of our volunteers for their efforts today. Special mention to Lilly and Layla, who did the drinks station......enjoy those smoothies.?? To Dave Leckenby for his assistance on the timing with Mick Booth. Eggsellent job on the BBQ from Bob And Thommo,............you were bacon me crazy......thanks lads. To JR for being our photographer today, thank you.. LOST PROPERTY.....2 x M or S wetsuits and a pair of green and blue goggles are in the cage..let me know if they are yours. KONA.....best wishes to Anne Grundy and Clint Rowlings who head next week to race in one of the toughest events. Good luck to both of you. A reminder about SAFETY. I reiterate again, that your safety is paramount. With that comes a common sense approach. Whilst we understand the mindset is to do a fast time, the reality is, there are going to be occasions where you just have to bite the bullet and slow down....or in some cases STOP. The roads around the Jetty, in particular, Marina parade are always going to be busy, drivers are not looking for you, pedestrians may not see you, please , it is your responsibility to make sure you don't endanger yourself, or fellow members when out on course. If we can all remember this on race day, we will continue to have the best club races . Race 2 is October 7. We look forward to your company then PT.
