A BIG thanks goes to Matt and Linda Becker of Coffs Coast Sports Physio for supporting our club and sponsoring today’s event. Coffs Coast Sports Physio provide a range of sports physio services from sport injury treatment and rehabilitation, exercise physiology, radial shock wave therapy, and remedial massage from their Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga clinics. You might even bump into Club Coach Trent Renshaw near the massage bench.
Matt and Linda kindly donated their time today to talk to athletes about their services and provided 5 very generous giveaways including consultations, exercise physiology advice, remedial massage as well as gifts including Archies thongs and slides. Let's support our sponsors and check out their website at www.ccsp.net.au, as well as Facebook and Instagram for more information. And to Brad from X-Press signs - thank you for the work you have done recently to support our club with various signage work. For any signage needs check out www.x-press.com.au. After a few weeks off, cooler conditions and a kind jetty swim started today’s Race No 10 (not 9 as mentioned earlier in the morning!). 33 athletes competed across all categories. Welcome to our visitors and special mentions to Kelsey Van Gastel taking on her first triathlon – fantastic! For the women in the Sprint distance, Mel Sylvester took line honours in 1:12.36 with a fast swim/bike followed by Andrea Burth second in 1:21:30 and Jen Booth taking third in 1:25:05. In our men’s Sprint event, Adrian Hawke cleaned up the swim and bike legs to sprint home first in a time of 1:04:59 followed by Ben Rose in 1:06:44 and third to the ever consistent Shaun Bayndrian in 1:07:55. Dave Leckenby ran solidly for a first place in the Aquathlon in a good time of 35:02. Both Mel and Adrian picked up $25 vouchers from the Hotel Group at Moonee, Sawtell and Toormina while Volunteer of the Day went to Krystal Silvester who was quickly on the job to assist Andrew Gallagher and picked up a $50 voucher from the Fishermans Co-op. Full results can be found on the web site at http://www.coffstri.com/results.html. For those using Strava check out this race report and next race invite that can also be found there. To all the athletes that stopped to assist Andrew Gallagher who came off his bike…thank you, especially to Krystal who was in the roaming bike vehicle and one of the first attending, with the support provided by Rainee Heron and Michael Singleton. We extend our thoughts to Andrew and wish him a speedy recovery. Keeping safe on our bike course is one of the Club’s key aims, and though this incident didn’t involve any other vehicles, it’s a reminder that we all need to be so aware of the hazards when riding. To all our volunteers thanks for filling the roster during the past week especially to Sam and Alan on the BBQ and Shaun Lawer stepping into the lead volunteer/starter. Our final Club race of the year is in 2 weeks, Sunday 28 April 2024 at 6.15am – and will very likely be wet suit optional! We’re looking for some volunteers to close out the season for this race, and if you’re able sign up to Duty man or let Mark Kirstein know at [email protected]. We have two upcoming open water swim coaching sessions with Club Coach Annette Lee with the first starting this Sunday 21 April at 7am at the Jetty. Keep an eye out for more details on FB and Insta. And if you’re thinking about how to close out the season, then do sign up for NSW Tri Club Champs on May 25 in Forster with subsidised accommodation and post race afternoon feed etc. at the Forster Village. This is a great club weekend away, so check your Email, and social media pages for details. Stay safe and happy training! Peter Birch Race Director
