Good Morning members. Huge weekend of events with members spread across this vast country, way out west to Goondiwindi, down to Canberra, east across the ditch to NZ, and in between. Grab a coffee, or some brekky, some light reading to be had! Let's head across the ditch and a massive congratulations to Reece Edwards on a famous victory in the Tarawera 102klm trail run. Debuting against 462 other runners, Reece was hoping to break into the top 10.. Kawarau provided perfect conditions and Reece was able to settle in with the leaders as they navigated forest roads ,native bush and farmland amongst picturesque rolling green hills. Controlling his fatigue, the 70km mark saw him in 2nd position and only 4mins behind the leader. Mustering the required mental strength, Reece upped the ante and and assumed control of the race with 14klm to go. Crossing the line in 8:22, he was a decisive and clear winner by 7mins. Awesome effort Reece, we cannot wait for you to recount this to us in a few weeks. A large contingent of Coffs Coast athletes headed Way out west to Goondiwindi to tackle the gruelling Hell of the West. Look out for Andy's race wrap. Heading down to the nations capital, and Isaiah Koopmans had a great race breaking the tape as 1st U20 and 4th overall in the Canberra Triathlon Festival. Blue green algae meant it was revised to a 5k run,40k ride, 10k run. An 18:08 run set him up nicely for the ride, knocking that over in 59:35, Isaiah was then able to hammer home the 10k in 36:36. Brilliant effort mate, we look forward to seeing you race bcu. Just down the road, Alira Jade has provided a report for SWR. Despite some very welcome rain on Friday and Saturday nights and 30 knot winds predicted for race morning by weatherman Fidge, the 30th annual Trial Bay Triathlon had wonderful conditions for competitors on Sunday. Over 20 members of the Coffs Harbour Rockets made the short trip down the highway to tackle the course either individually or in a team. A short swim (or wade in the shallow waters), followed by a scenic, bumpy, hilly ride and a trail style run ending up the beach, suited many of the Rockets. Michael Ylinen, looking fast and fresh on the bike took out 3rd overall with a cracking 1:13.31. An always smiling Ann Grundy took out her age category. Phil Benoit and Alira Bayndrian taking out 2nd in their respective age categories and Wendy Maley taking out 3rd. Just off the podium was Shaun Bayndrian and Chris Hodge, coming in 4th and 5th in their age category. Some work to be done there before BCU in 2 weeks Shaun! Leon Petrohelos, Jukka Ylinen, Joshua Patricks, Ian and Kirsten Nash, Pim Heaney , Tony Cross, Dave Reynolds, Ian Howchin, Garry award and Susanna O’Sullivan all put in great performances to take home some points for the Rockets in the North Coast Interclub series. In the team’s events, Kate Marsden and Lachie Marle took out the Mixed Team event as Team Retro, with Team Fidgey Hodge (Love the creativity with naming) coming in a close 2nd only 3 minutes behind; with Loz Hodge carrying Trevor Fidge home with a cracking run. Fiona, Kylie and Deb put in a fast effort to come in 2nd in the Women’s Teams and Team Hair Rumours being led out by Hannah Legge had a great day out and Hannah cooled down after the race with a stand-up paddle board. Nice work Hannah. Check out the bling Hannah got for her efforts (see photos below). Apologies if I missed anyone. Huge hand clap for the juniors that participated in the Nestle Triathlon series. Great to see so many kids ripping in and enjoying the sport. The club is in good hands. Hi 5's for all the support crews , cheering us on from the sidelines, you give us that lift we need to make it to the finish line.👏👏👏 Always a great race for anyone thinking about next year; camping is a great option for nurses (or anyone with skills treating small children’s bike injuries), heavy sleepers or those who love the sound of children laughing, amazing sunsets and good friends. Tweed Enduro next weekend with several Coffs Rockets braving the Half Ironman distance, followed by John Daffy and BCU in three weeks’ time. See you all in a race somewhere soon. Alira. Well done to everyone that competed across the weekend. Plenty stayed back and continued their training for upcoming events, with the bcu event high on the priority list for most. If you are doing an event, let us know, always good to hear what members are up to .
